Speaker

Kimberly WengerCommunication is my thing.  I love to speak as much as I love to write.  If your organization is looking for a speaker for it’s next event, shoot me an email and we can talk about it.

I speak much the same as I write.  For anyone to remember much of what someone says tomorrow or the day after, there must be good stories to anchor the points.  People remember stories and things that make them laugh much better than the three points of a sermon, speech, or lesson (yawn).  Some topics are very serious and should be treated that way, but there’s always room for a little humor.

If you’re wondering about my experience, , I’ll write a little about that here – although it feels a little weird to me.

From the time I was a little girl, my parents put me up in front of people to sing.  I grew up on stage, mainly in church.  When I was in high school, I was on the speech and debate team (National Forensics League) and competed arcoss the great state of South Carolina.  I don’t have any trophies for athletics, but I do have a few for my work there.  It was great fun!

I focused for many years on singing, so through college I continued in choirs and ensembles.  At Clemson University, I was in a small acapella ensemble called Southern Accents.  I loved the singing, but I also thoroughly enjoyed my roll of introducing songs to the audience.

After college I spent several years traveling around the country hosting training seminars.  I had many opportunities for public speaking during that time, as well as learning what it takes to put on a major event and make sure everything runs smoothly.  But that’s another story…  From speaking to small groups about servant leadership to large audiences about marketing and promotion, that job gave me many opportunities to learn read my audience and keep their attention.

In seminary I learned to preach.  That was a form of speaking that had formerly terrified me, but I found that I loved it.  Speaking about God’s word is a great honor that I don’t take lightly.  Besides preaching, during that time I also did training seminars for students on time management.  As the Divinity School “Senator” on the Council of Graduate Students (student government), I had many occasions to speak to my fellow classmates at assemblies and special events.

After spending nearly three years as the Women’s Ministries Director, I have recently become the Community Groups Minister at a large church.  I teach several classes at a time throughout the year, which is a great joy.  This job often affords me the opportunity to speak and teach, and I am thrilled about it.  I have been the special speaker for community programs and events as well.

So, if I can help you at your next event, you can reach me at kimbwen@gmail.com.  Let’s make your next meeting excellent!
